Over 25% of middle-class families on holiday will stay in UK

According to research by Experian, more than 25% of middle-class families taking a holiday will stay within the UK this year - citing `financial pressures` as the main reason, the Guardian reports.

The survey, which was based on 2,000 people, found that 28% of `middle Britons` (by age and by wealth) throughout the UK will not go on holiday at all this year. And of those still planning to go on holiday, 28% will stay in Britain.

The group found that out of those still planning to travel abroad for their holiday, 24% said they would take packed lunches rather than eat out, 42% said they wouldn`t go on as many excursions and 29% said they wouldn`t buy any souvenirs.

A spokesperson at the IVA Advisory Centre commented: "As these figures demonstrate, cutting back doesn`t have to mean doing without, as there are many ways people can cut back on their spending without foregoing their luxuries altogether - and that`s something that doesn`t just apply to holidays."
